When my students think of "libraries" they think of white walls, books, and required reading; not the most exciting associations. Our library wants to break the stereotype of libraries being "boring" and "quiet" places. We want to energize our space and make it inviting for kids. The items I have chosen for my project will really help our library feel as welcoming as possible. For example I have chosen brightly colored bins to help sort the books in our library into categories that make it easy for students to choose the books that are right for them. Along with the bins, we will also use the letters to help categorize each section of the library. We also have two large bulletin boards next to our library. The goal that we have this year is to decorate both the boards and inside of the library with fun animals, to make our students feel like they are escaping reality and entering a calm place to relax and read. I truly believe that this will inspire the students even more to love their reading area. The more inviting this environment is the more often they will visit it. Another important job of our library will be our guided reading period. We have this every day. Guided reading is a chance for students and teachers to work together on a chosen story to help strengthen their understanding of the text. We customize their activities based on that text. This is why I chose to have supply caddies and paper organizing pockets. This will allow our library to stay neat and create a student driven learning environment. Students will be able to store their guided reading materials in our library for everyday use, without worrying about cluttering their sacred reading s
