I would like to go to the 2020 California Council for the Social Studies Conference in Costa Mesa. The theme of this year's conference is "Preparing Today's Students for College, Career, and Civic Life," which connects to many aspects of our school priorities. Making Waves commits to rigorously and holistically preparing students to gain acceptance to and graduate from college to ultimately become valuable contributors to the workforce and their communities, which is why I feel that what I learn from this conference will be a value to my students. There are several workshops that directly connect to our mission statement: Ethnic Studies - Preparing Students for a Diverse and Interconnected World Building Community through Cultural Studies Active Advocacy for Social Justice and Diversity Through Community Collaboration My students will directly benefit from this experience, as I will bring back new teaching methods and pedagogy to share with them AND my colleagues. I will also bring back research-based strategies, all designed to improve the teaching and learning of history/social studies in my classroom.
