I teach 5th grade in an area of the city where there are many students with unique and diverse needs. In my classroom, it is our motto that "attitude comes first and everything else follows." I have high expectations for my students, and I believe that it is important that they have a positive attitude about their wealth of knowledge and enormous ability to learn. Our school is currently working on STEAM certification and that is a big part of what we do each week. By integrating the STEAM process into our daily routines, we are teaching students how to be critical thinkers, collaborative workers, and problem solvers. It really has helped our students become better prepared for life outside the school community as well as help them to make informed choices about their future careers.
