To become successful in today's world, it is critical that students not only know how to read but know how to enjoy reading. Getting students to become avid readers is challenging, especially since TV and video games tend to outshine books. To accomplish this, students need to be in an environment where reading is not only encouraged but celebrated, and this can only be done by having a modern and cozy library full of exciting and fresh books. Unfortunately, as a first-year teacher, my library lacks these qualities. While I have done my best to decorate on a sparse budget, many of my garage sale books are old, outdated, and do not look inviting, especially for reluctant readers. Creating a space bursting with meaningful and diverse literature, as well as a cozy carpet with floor pillows for reading, will tempt my students to get lost in countless exhilarating and well-told stories. Many books that I have selected are Newbury Award winners and were favorites of mine as a student, which will allow me to give sincere and passionate recommendations and cultivate the next generation of readers.
