Our building is a Title I school and serves approximately 382 students. The school's demographics include: 6% American Indian, 7% Asian, 12% Hispanic, 15% Black, 52% White, 8% two or more races. As of 2015, 74.1% of our students qualified for free and reduced lunch. My classroom for the 2017-2018 school year is composed of 26 excited and energetic learners. Many of these students take part in our Battle of the Books program which offers opportunities for students to cooperate with their teammates, share their knowledge, and gain confidence through the process. Our program consisted of 21 participants last year and 50 students have expressed interest for the upcoming school year. I am also the program director for our #IBWarriors Male Empowerment program in our building. This program is currently available for our fifth grade boys. Our main goals are mentoring, goal setting and empowerment.
