In my fifth grade classroom, students have become accustomed to completing different activities using technology. However, our school is not always able to provide this technology. While many activities can be completed using what we currently have, there are still many projects that require or are most efficient with the use of an iPad. For example, my students LOVE deciphering the "code" for QR codes and following the journey of research. As a common standard that is to be learned in fifth grade, researching information can be very difficult and, at times, dull. By providing students with with a tool that makes research engaging and fun, you are helping to enhance student learning while also assisting in their self-confidence, helping them to feel as though research is something they CAN do. Many students in our LLD classroom lack this confidence and often feel discouraged when they cannot complete an activity and even more so when they are not interested in the activity. Completing research with iPads using QR codes is exactly what these students need to feel excited and confident about an essential skill that will carry them throughout their academic careers.
