I teach 33 fantastic 1st and 2nd grade students in a low-income/ high poverty school in central Los Angeles. Most, if not all, my students live in apartment complexes or multi-family homes. My students have an unwavering interest in learning. Their parents are equally enthusiastic and supportive of their education. As an elementary intervention/prevention teacher, I understand how important it is to teach the skills my students will need for the future. I don't just teach them what they need to know "now", but the skills they will need when they become young adults and part of the workforce. My students are striving to be critical thinkers, innovative inventors, and problem solvers who will utilize their learning and skills to contribute to society.
