The materials I have selected will help the students work together to develop social/emotional skills, encourage language, increase cognitive skills and develop fine and gross motor skills. For example, the books that show different abilities will help students understand that we are alike and different, but we all have some of the same feelings. When the children build with the foam brick blocks, they will use their imagination and their reasoning and recall abilities to build structures. The selections showcasing disabilities will help my children with disabilities see themselves in their play equipment. This will go a long way toward building self esteem and encouraging the children to join in play. The Magna Tiles will inspire creative thinking and encourage cooperation. The Yolo first friends and the Friends with Special Needs toys will encourage acceptance, help build language skills and increase social abilities. When the children play with toys that look like them or their classmates, they will be more accepting of the differences that make us all unique. The shapes and colors set will help students learn basic concepts. We will use the Float & Sink numbers and letters as a science experiment and as a way to increase letter and number knowledge. This year I plan to introduce STEM to my students. The Force & Motion STEM activity will give students an opportunity to broaden their base of knowledge while increasing social, language, cognitive and physical skills. It has been several years since we were able to add new materials to our room. The items requested will help replenish worn, broken and discarded materials. Pre-K students need to "Play all day" and my exceptional students will enjoy playing and learning with the materials. Thank you so much for the opportunity to enhance my class supplies.
