Welcome to Textual Analysis and Argumentation (ninth grade)! This will be my second year teaching this essential course, and I need your help to make this class as effective as possible by providing high-interest books for an in-class library. Reading is so important because it allows students to critically think about other peoples' differing perspectives and how they deal with challenges and difficulties that may or may not resemble challenges and difficulties like theirs’. This can help students to not only deal with conflict that will come their way, but also to connect with people that are different than they are. Also, through the availability of a variety of books, students can take the initiative in choosing what they want to read, and develop an interest in reading through the experience and analysis of the books. As a result, they will become better readers because they are personally invested and will have had the opportunity to read frequently and successfully. We, at our high school, do not have an on-campus library, but the students of my class need easy access to a wide variety of genres of books and Lexile levels. Please support my students so that they may have the opportunity to develop a love for reading, seek out new reading material, and fulfill their goals for college and/or career on their horizons by making gains in reading and reading skills.
