Instead of just giving students a binder, I would want my students to make their own notebook (textbook). Each students will need 3 book rings and colored card stocks. Making their own notebook will be more meaningful to them because it will help students take ownership of their work. Students will create their own textbook using guided notes, sample problems worked together in class, and a lot of engaging foldables. In my class students do not simply read along with a traditional textbook or take notes from the board. Textbooks are not available or are not appropriate for the learning needs of my students so I created worksheets, graphic organizers and other materials for learning. Using the colored paper for foldables and unit dividers allows content areas to be color-coded which is great for visual learners and it will prepare them for life after high school. Most of the times students give up while they're doing the class activity because they don't know if their doing it right. At the same time its very hard for teachers to check 30 students' work and give them feedback right away. There is a solution! Making an activity where students have questions on one page (pink colored paper) and answers on the other page (yellow colored paper). I can ask students to cut it out and match the questions with the right answers. The students can use glue sticks or tape to put the answer and the question together. This activity is important because students can see and understand right away if they're working correctly. When they don't see the answer on the answer page, then they know that they made a mistake and they can call me or ask someone for help. This way students can get the feedback right away.
