My students are able to be more fully engaged in learning when they are regulated. Movement is as important to them as comfort. Some of my students have weak core muscles, so sitting on a wobble stool will help them build core strength, while providing comfort. Other students need a gentle squeeze to feel regulated and will experience that while reading or working while in a bean bag. Wobble stools will be a seating option for learning at desks, or at the table during group time. Some students are more fully engaged when they can move slightly during instructional times. A wobble stool is a safer option than sitting up on their legs on top of the chair. Students who had an opportunity to try a wobble stool over the summer demonstrated more time on task than when seated on a regular chair. "Hugs are for home." That is the phrase we use with students to help teach personal space and appropriate boundaries. Gentle pressure is also regulating for some students. Bean Bag chairs can provide the "hug" students crave during the day. Having a bean bag available as a seating choice to meet that need is a convenient alternative. Please consider donating to provide flexible seating options for my students. When students are regulated, they are more flexible with their thinking. When they are more flexible, they grow and learn!!
