Do you like sitting in one hard chair for long periods of time? No? Now imagine the look on a child's face when they walk into a classroom and get to pick their own type of seat. Not just their own chair. A chair with a stretchy band, a stability ball, a cushion, a lap desk! This year I am going to implement flexible seating in my classroom. During the day students will get to pick which seating option they like best. If they want to sit on a stability ball (similar to a yoga ball) they choose that desk. If they want to sit in a chair with a strength band under their feet, they can choose that option.The motions help children channel their additional energy while remaining focused and engaged in their work. Each item will always remain at a particular desk do the child still had his or her designated work area. First graders are bundles of energy, each with a different learning style. There will also be other options such as floor seating and standing desks. For this project we need your help with the stability balls and bands. This project will create a classroom environment that students will want to be a part of.
