These basic art supplies will help students to create and grow in the art Room. Having multiple mediums to choose from increases the success and creativity of each student and their art. Crayons are the most basic and widely used supply in the art room. PreK start out using larger crayons and then gradually move to the smaller size. The act of coloring can help to improve motor skills in young children. The actions, motions and precise grip involved in coloring can aid in the development of the muscles of the fingers, hands and wrist. The markers selected may be used as just a marker to create intense, bold color or even as a "watercolor type" paint. Some lessons that we may use marker for are Masks from around the world, Islamic Tughra "signatures" and painting backgrounds in fish bowls or sunsets. Colored pencils will give students a chance to experiment with creating highlights and shadows more so than a crayon would. Colored pencils also allow to add color to smaller areas of an artwork because of the finer tip.
