The use of technology in the classroom will provide students with endless opportunities to complete inquiry-based learning, STEM, and PBL lesson. The students will use the Kindle Fires to conduct research on the solar system. They will be given a specific site that they can use to obtain children friendly search engines. Students will use this to find various information about the solar system. They will work in small groups to collaborate with their peers to research information on planets size, order, appearance, and composition. This will provide them an interactive way to learn about various elements of the planets. Technology is an excellent way to encourage and engage students in learning new content. Students more likely to retain content taught when they are able to be hands on and take the lead in their learning. Not only will students use the technology to conduct research, but to create visual presentations as well. They will use Web 2.0 tools to present their research to the class. Along with their presentation, they will also use mathematical operations to provide information about the relevant size differences of the planets. Having the technology is great way for them to check their calculations using the calculator as well. Using the Kindle Fires will help them to continue to develop 21st century skills and continue to be successful.
