As the reading specialist for a high need elementary school, my goal is to hook kids into reading. Our school of 600 students has a population that ranges from average income to incredibly poor, and the number of our economically at-risk students have increased dramatically in the last year. We now are over 40% free and reduced lunch and our ESL population, students who don't speak English, has shown a sharp increase. We are a school that embraces all students....we believe that we need to educate the whole child, and we want to challenge all of our children, no matter what obstacles stand in their way, to become readers for life.

About my class
