The books in my classroom consist of a wide-array of genres to appeal to all readers. Students are far more apt to read books if they are popular and relevant to their lives. Additionally, by having the books in a close proximity to students, it is no surprise that students are frequently checking out books from my classroom library. I try to keep my library as up-to-date as possible and constantly look to replenish my titles year after year. It is my goal to help guide students to books that will interest them and hopefully either spark their interest in reading or continue the love of books that has already developed. The donations from this project are going to be used to buy high interest books for students from many literary genres; not only will these books help students develop their literacy skills, but they will also help develop my students as life-long readers. Several of the books I have chosen are on the Top Young Adult Books from 2017 best seller list, such as The Hate U Give and Heir of Fire. I have also selected titles of books that students have asked me to provide in my classroom library this past spring, such as This is the End, Eleanor and Park, and Always and Forever, Lara Jean. Lastly, I have also chosen books that are relevant to our classroom curriculum, such as You Don't Have to Say You Love Me: A Memoir by Sherman Alexie. During students' sophomore and junior years, they are asked to read fictional selections from Sherman Alexie; I would love for students to have the opportunity to read his memoir as well. Without question, these donations will be used to buy books that are focused on my students' requests and interests.
