Dramatic play is a critical part of early childhood learning. Basic pretend kitchen furniture can quickly be transformed into a veterinary clinic, a doctor's office, a supermarket, and so much more. Students share their experiences from real life in an imaginary play setting. Students who have never experienced such setting now have new knowledge. Play helps children make sense of their world. Meaningful play creates the building blocks for literacy and mathematics. Although there is tons of research supporting play, there isn't always funding to foster play based learning in public school. Currently, my kindergarten classroom has a cradle, table, and chairs. Additional kitchen furniture will enrich my students play experience and learning.
