I teach science in South Knoxville, TN with about 120 8th grade students. While my students live close to the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, rarely do they get the chance to explore the mountains or even our beautiful school grounds. My goal is to get my students outdoors on our trails and in our outdoor classrooms journaling at least once a month as we explore the biodiversity of our area. My middle school students and many students face deep problems which get in the way of learning, by bringing students outdoors I hope they can find some peace of mind in nature's nonjudgmental and calm spaces.

About my class
