As a first year teacher, I couldn't be more grateful to finally have my own classroom. However, my room is pretty bare with just the essential furniture (tables, chairs, bookshelves) provided by the school district/building. I have already put over $800 into my classroom and I am still missing some key elements that will be needed for this school year as well as many to come. I am asking for your help in providing some essential items for my students. A classroom carpet and math manipulatives will be a huge help in preparing my classroom for a successful year. . The carpet is the most important material I could ask for. I have used this particular carpet for the last few years while I was a TA in kindergarten and during my practicums. I use this tool for whole group stories, classroom meetings, good morning time, singing and dancing, and many instructional periods throughout each day. Many SEL lessons are taught using this carpet. SEL lessons help to build a classroom community and provide important life lessons to students. This carpet is amazing because it provides students with their own personal square to sit in. This particular carpet has 30 spots so there will always be enough room for all my students. Of all things I could need for my classroom the carpet is most essential to me. The rest of my list is all math manipulatives. The wooden blocks, shapes, magnetic blocks, math coins, and unifix cubes all give students a hands on approach to math. This allows for students to really see how math works by providing them with concrete examples of addition and subtraction problems.
