These materials will help students with communication disorders take turns, make choices and give directions during inclusive activities like cooking, making crafts, etc. When collaborating with the occupational therapist and intervention specialist, our planned hands-on activities work to engage students and motivate them to learn. During these tasks, nonverbal students and students with limited communication skills may have fewer opportunities to fully participate through making choices, giving directions, answering questions and asking questions. As the SLP, I can support students with communication needs during whole class activities so that they are able to participate with their peers. To do so, my students need access to alternative methods of communication such as iPad technology, voice output devices and communication buttons.
