A bookshelf full of books in Spanish will give students the opportunity to choose books on topics that interest them. By reading on topics of interest, students will learn more vocabulary while they experience the language in context. These books, by Spanish-speaking authors will also provide essential cultural exposure. Students need to interact with authentic texts in order to learn Spanish in context. In addition to student-directed reading, I will read books out loud to cover 1st and 2nd year Spanish topics to teach basic language and encourage students to begin using it.
