When students are given a phone or a tablet, their first instinct is to watch a cartoon or play a game. I have research projects throughout the year with students. We look through books to help us write about a topic. However, today in society, many things are internet based. Students have to be able to research a topic of their choice. They have to know how find they topic and what information to draw from their findings. My school serves K-8. Many students in the higher grades do not know how to effectively use a computer for academics. I also teach them that this is necessary to be college and career ready. In college you are given a topic, you have to find out information about this topic then use your findings to write your own paper about whatever you subject matter was on. Although I have been able to successfully execute this in the past, students have to be able to do so with technology in order to succeed as adults.
