One of the areas I've struggled with is getting reluctant readers to feel comfortable enough in the classroom to give a book a try. I have worked hard over the years to accumulate a large class library with new and engaging books. My school is moving to a new location, and with it, I no longer have a place to house my class library. I am hoping to create a reading nook to provide a comfortable area to read for my students. While building my library I've been conscious of balancing the books between different genres as well as creating a balance between stereotypical girl/boy books. In the last couple years I was able to help find a book to engage students whom arrived in my classroom saying, "I've never even read a full book, I don't read," in such a way that his parents had to purchase the rest of the series over the summer break because he refused to stop reading. Please consider helping my students gain an inviting area in the classroom.
