My students want to learn more about holistic chemistry. Holistic chemistry is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. Pure essential oils can be subdivided into two distinct groups of chemical constituents; the hydrocarbons which are made up almost exclusively of terpenes (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes), and the oxygenated compounds which are mainly esters, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, phenols, and oxides. I am requesting several different essential oils, carrier oils and books to assist students in learning about holistic chemistry. This is chemistry with a twist as we will be learning about chemistry thousands of years ago and how modern medicine has changed as well as how some people continue to use holistic therapy.
