My students are a diverse group of kids. I teach at a school where over 60 percent of the students come from a Latino background, more than 90 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches, and many of our students' families have immigrated from other countries to provide more opportunities for their children and grandchildren. For many of my students, English is their second language and Spanish is the main language spoken at home. They come from homes where their parents or guardians are gone a lot of the time working in agriculture or food processing plants. They are often left responsible for their younger siblings and worry about where their next meal is going to come from. For them, it is hard to see life beyond what their families are doing now. These students are fighters and survivors and need your support to help them see the bright possibilities for their futures.
