Students at AIS Diamond middle school come from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences which many times include several Adverse Childhood Experiences. (ACE) They are enrolled in our school as an alternative placement for education due to their involvement in juvenile criminal cases, child protective cases and, or prior suspension or expulsion from traditional general education classrooms and schools. Each year my classroom and school mission is to work closely with our students and identify key behavioral and academic traits to improve so that they can return to a traditional school setting and achieve success academically and socially. The 17-18 school year marks my third year teaching at AIS. It is the greatest joy of my career to get to know my students and make learning math fun while also sharing my life experience as a husband, father, teacher, former social worker and iraq war u.s. army veteran.
