In a community where students have limited resources and only really experience traveling through literary pieces like The Kite Runner, the classroom allows my students to experience other cultures through reading. My students will utilize The Kite Runner not only for literary analysis and aesthetic appreciation of author's craft, but also for enlightenment, appreciation, and tolerance of other cultures. As a World Literature teacher, I feel it is important for my students to appreciate, or at least, understand cultural studies. As residents of a small community, confined to "14-Square Miles of Excellence," ( a title we proudly represent), my students can have the opportunity to travel through the words and worlds authors create for us.
