I'm a first-year teacher of middle school (6th-8th grade) students with emotional disabilities. My specialized ED program functions similar to a resource setting where I teach each grade-level a social skills class once a day. The rest of the day, I am constantly checking in with the students in their general education classrooms to help them generalize the skills being taught in my classroom. I teach in an urban college town where there is a high level of poverty and trauma. I want my classroom to reflect the endless possibilities my students have in their futures, and to do that, I teach them the social skills they need to succeed.

About my class
