My students interact through project based learning, and learn "How We Affect Plants and How They Affect Us. The students learn that exercise keeps them healthy and how we help the plants by breathing out carbon dioxide and the plants help them by cleaning the air. My "kid-inspired" project is going to help my class stay motivated to do daily exercise routines. I instill the importance of exercise through dancing and purposeful movement. I am trying to instill healthy living values into my students. I want them to understand that exercise is important in order to keep your body and mind, strong and healthy. However, the majority of my students were initially uninterested in movement activities during the early fall, spring and summer in our classroom. They expressed that they would have more energy to continue if the room wasn't so hot. Temperatures in our classroom can surpass 95 degrees on a hot spring day, making it difficult to motivate students to exercise. Research shows that when a classroom is too hot, it can affect students' abilities to learn. When temperatures are too hot, the brain is constantly reminding the body to do something about that condition. Because of the constant interruption, it is hard for the students to stay focused on any tasks. Furthermore, this takes a toll on the physical activity level during those extremely hot days. Please help my students stay active. We need a portable air-conditioner to keep the classroom at a comfortable temperature. Some of the classrooms in our building have a window air-conditioner, and those rooms are kept at a cool temperature. Our classroom does not.
