Meaningful student engagement with reading increases dramatically when students have the choice and ability to sit comfortably and read a book of their choice. Flexible seating will increase the engagement of all my students with reading, but it will have an even more profound effect on my struggling readers who tend to try and avoid reading independently. My students love to snuggle up in a corner and read on their own (or with a partner). I have watched them use bookbags and coats to make a soft cozy corner to read in and would love to be able to provide them with cushions and stools on which to sit.
