With the use of a CD player and headphones in my classroom students will be able to listen to nursery rhymes, fairy tales, folktales, fictional, and nonfictional books during center time, small group reading and recess. By having students listen to stories on CD while following along with the book, students will increase their phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency and reading comprehension. Through the use of the CD player and headphones students will be able to concentrate more on the story being read while drowning out background noise for improved concentration. With these resources the students will have access to another form of being read to to increase the amount of reading time they receive each day.
