The only time I can offer this hour of writing time to students is during their lunch and recess, but I have noticed that many of the students need to be moving during this time of day. I am hoping that by offering appropriate seating or standing that allows for movement and strengthening of the core, the writers will still be able to move their bodies during this mid day break. I am hoping to provide them with a place to be creative, be supported, and be comfortable! I would like to start with at least four adjustable height learning stools which will improve alertness and focus and two stand up desks. The stand up desks and alternative seats will allow students to exercise and write at the same time. I also believe that a kneeling chair is beneficial for students helping with core strength. As the writing culture at our school evolves, more students will learn that writing doesn't need to happen while sitting quietly at a desk. As they move, they create!
