As a student, I struggled a lot with focusing. I grew up at the tail end of the desks in a row, sitting in a chair, lecturing teacher classroom. When I went into teaching, I vowed to make sure my classroom would be a great space for all learners. Last year, I funded and implemented flexible seating in my classroom. Teaching 5th grade requires students to take more responsibility as they will be leaving middle school and entering middle school. My goal in implementing flexible seating was to teach students how to choose seats that were best for them and take ownership for their learning. I went into this knowing I would learn and reflect based on how my students worked. The results? It was... GREAT! Students learned how to pick seats or areas in which they learned best. They were also able to focus much better because there were many different learning options. I would like to continue to improve the flexible learning environment in which my classroom encompasses. This is why I created this project. I would like to bring stools and wobble chairs to increase quality learning in my students.
