Research has shown that classrooms that focus on student-centered instruction and small groups are able to better meet the needs of all students. Small group instruction is intense and every minute has to be spent keeping the students engaged. Wobble chairs are a great way to keep the students focused. There is a connection between movement and learning. Being able to move is not only beneficial for the students with ADD and ADHD, but for a number of other students in the classroom because of their young age. I teach in the elementary classroom and it is difficult to keep them seated for long periods of time. Many of them like to lean back in the chairs or sit on the edge of the seat. Wobble chairs would allow them to move without creating a distraction or becoming a safety concern. I plan to use the wobble chairs during my small group instruction at my teacher table, when learning is most individualized and intense to support those students that need to be able to move while at the same time keeping the focus on learning!
