These books will comprise a class set that my students and I will read and discuss together in class as part of a Cold War/Vietnam unit in World History for years to come. It is my belief that history comes alive for students when they can read fascinating, detailed accounts of people who lived through significant historical events. Historical literacy, the practice of digging into history from multiple perspectives, is an incredibly useful skill in school and for the rest of their lives. This book will provide my students with a soldier's perspective of the Vietnam war, beyond the dates and facts contained in their history textbooks, and enhance the critical thinking skills students will need in their adult lives.
