My students all come from very economically disadvantaged homes and they rarely have enriching experiences outside of school. I try to provide hands-on experiences for them in science but they have often expressed a great love and interest in animals and unfortunately I cannot bring those to my class. Nature of Things is a great program as they not only bring the animals to the students but they also provide a developmentally appropriate science lesson so that the students can learn more about the animals and their habitats. Visits to animal preserves or nature centers can be very expensive and most of my families cannot afford to give their children such experiences.
