"WHAT?!" My students gasped in shock from the truth that they just discovered. As we were reading "Riding Freedom" by Pam Muoz Ryan, these fourth grade students were appalled by the sexism that the main character faced. After I led them to the question of how sexism plays a role in today's society, these wonderful humans demanded that we act to promoter gender equality in our school and community. With hardly a word from me, they set to work making posters of influential women in history, writing scripts for plays showing what to do when you encounter sexism in school, and writing comic books to show the effects of sexism in society.
