The goal of this project is to establish a club, to meet both socially, and as a potential required remediation, for students in need, that teaches the card game Magic: The Gathering. This is a game that requires a deep understanding of rules and procedures, increases vocabulary, reinforces math skills, and strengthens confidence in critical thinking and problem solving skills. We can have weekly meetings, during club and activity times, and meet after school, or during the school day, as approved and needed, for remediation purposes. This campaign equalizes the playing field, allowing learning opportunities for all, despite financial need. With the right supplies, we have the ability to take the game beyond a standard game-night activity, into something that will allow students to create and learn, while in a light-hearted, fun gaming environment. One thing remains true, from childhood into young adults, and that's learning happens best through hands-on, play situations. The creation of this club, through this campaign, will provide a rich learning environment for all students, not just those that find their home in sports or other such talents. Anyone can draw seven cards, learn the rules, plan strategies, and have fun trying to win. Through my own experience with, and love for, the game, I am confident that I am ordering supplies that will benefit all students, and that I can care for and continue to use for years to come.
