Students learn more when they are engaged and what better way to learn science than through interactive notebooks? From the moment I introduced my students to interactive learning by creating personalized foldables to understand complicated concepts in biology, their buy in and engagement increased ten fold. Students move from passive note taking to being active participants involved in their own learning. Interactive notebooks create a sense of ownership and pride in what the students do and gives them a personalized way to make meaning of their new knowledge. As effective as this type of teaching and learning is, teachers are always spending their own personal money to be able to provide these opportunities to their students. It is becoming increasingly harder for teachers to meet the supply needs of their students. Because most students don’t have the means to buy even the basics, as their teacher I often end up personally funding these needs. That is why I am asking for items like composition books, construction paper, colored and regular pencils, glue sticks and other materials so students can create their interactive notebooks. Funding of this project will allow me continue to provide those engaging and meaningful lessons for my students.
