This year my students will say goodbye to the paper and pencil morning routine! We will be using morning bins as station rotations to jump start our school day! My students will begin the day working creatively and collaborating with their classmates. They will work with the materials in the morning bins daily for 15-20 minutes and rotate to a new station weekly that promotes reading, phonics, science, math, social studies, and with the help of Donors Choose they will have materials that promote STEM processing. I currently have some materials to use in the morning bins such as school manipulatives and other resources that I have purchased out of pocket for my students to enhance reading, phonics, and math. With your generous donation, the addition of the Goobi Construction set, Quadpro Magnetic blocks, Legos, Brain Flakes, Bristle Blocks, and Gears! Gears! Gears! the students will have the opportunity to create different structures while activating prior knowledge of simple machines, force and motion, and math applications. While the use of the Creative Color Cubes and iTrax Critical Thinking Game will energize and enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills by completing the various task cards in a wide range of skill levels. These materials will bolster a hands-on experience for my second graders. The morning bin rotations encourage students to apply creativity, problem solving strategies, and class cohesiveness throughout the rest of the school day and beyond. It increases student excitement for learning first thing in the morning!
