Woodwind instruments such as clarinets and saxophones require reeds to produce a tone. The better quality the reed, the better quality the tone. One reed will be good for a few weeks if handled and cared for correctly, and woodwind players should have about 4 reeds in rotation. As our students' embouchures (the face muscles required to play an instrument) become stronger so must the reed size. We also have an accident every now and then when I reed is chipped or break, so we can go through a large amount of reeds in one year. Our students need these quality reeds in order to produce the best tones they can, and so our program can continue to be successful. The better the tones they make the more they will enjoy playing their instruments, and the more they enjoy playing the better they will become. This positive cycle will help continue and advance our success through out the years. We would love to be able to provide our students with all of the reeds they need, but it is not financially possible.
