My students are mostly Hispanic and lower income. Many of them love to read, but have very limited access to good books. Many of them do not speak English at home. It is important to provide them with quality books and a comfortable place to where they can read in peace. Our school is a small charter school in the inner city. We don't have a room for a full on library, but there is space to do something really special in my classroom. With the books and materials I've requested it's possible to create a space that will encourage and inspire kids to want to read.
