My plan is to do just that. But I want it to be the right book. Does the book offer challenging vocabulary? Opportunities for increasing fluency? An engaging story that holds the student's interest? All of these requirements, plus much more can be achieved by choosing any one of the twenty titles from the Magic Tree House series. It is a great series to introduce my students to the concept of sustained reading and advanced comprehension skills. Each chapter offers many opportunities to explicitly teach vocabulary. And the characters are a seven and eight year old (the same age as my students), who have an innate desire to learn on each of their adventures. One of the biggest advantages though, is that it is a series. If I can grab their attention with the first book, "Dinosaurs Before Dark". I usually have them "hooked on reading" and they can't wait to read the next one. Your generous contribution will provide the opportunity for another group of students to begin their exploration into the world of the Magic Treehouse.
