Every year I have students that struggle with word work. They don't understand a word. They can't remember what it looks like or what it sounds like even though we have gone over it and over it. They grow easily frustrated and can grow a sense of dread for spelling. This has lead me to research different options for my students. I have discovered that having multi-sensory options available to students not only increases their participation in class, but also increases their learning abilities. They are more focused because they find the learning to be fun instead of it being a chore. I want to use these materials to create literacy stations for my students that will be hands-on and involve different sensory experiences to enhance their learning. For instance, students will be able to use the letter stamps and play doh to stamp out their words or sentences. They will be able to use the magnets to spell out their words on a cookie sheet. They can string the letter beads on pipe cleaners to create their spelling words. With these materials there will be a variety of stations that my students would be able to work out and they would not only be engaged in their learning, but I believe their knowledge of word study would improve as well.
