My children love to play and explore in our outdoor space! My students need materials with which to foster their creativity and increase learning. They need to learn about living things by immersing themselves in the process of growing. With the absence of playground equipment (in that particular area) they have found frogs, salamanders, and worms! We planted seeds from our fall pumpkin and were amazed that some of the sprouts appeared in the spring! My children were able, from that small experience, to have a more concrete understanding of living things, how they grow, and what they need. With this request, I hope to keep the learning going through all of the seasons and processes. We need sand, hula hoops, tunnels, planting supplies and other hands-on materials for outside exploration and active play. It is so important for young children to dig, explore, and to produce products with a purpose. I hope to be able to provide this hands-on learning for my students! Hopefully, if all goes well with the planting, we can share fresh vegetables with our families as well! In my program, we provide monthly parent meetings educating parents on different topics. We also provide parents with resources and materials to help their child at home. My wish is to be able to share fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits for families to take home along with recipes. Throughout this experience, the students will also be able to enrich their sensory and gross motor development through play. They will be able to interact with the world around them in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment. Through play, students will sharpen their gross motor development by participating in such activities as throwing and catching, sand and water play, and balance activities. By measuring and pouring, students get a hands-on approach to foundational math skills such as measurement, weight, estimation, probability and problem solving.
