In a culture where adversity and prejudice among socio-economic classes, race, and gender are rampant in our society, I hope to produce a collaborative learning environment by promoting conversations to gain a better awareness and understanding of another’s culture. I work hard to create a classroom where opinions will be expressed constructively, and to allow student learning to come from exploration and collaborative teaching strategies. In order to accomplish this, tables are a necessary item. We need six activity tables to promote a collaborative learning environment. The tables would create an innovative classroom-learning environment that promotes the collaborative learning allowing students to communicate differing opinions in a constructive manner as well as the ability to move into a flexible seating classroom. With this project, I want students to understand they come from different backgrounds and are still able to work together as a team to complete a task: lab, group work, project, etc. The tables I will be purchasing will equip each of the students with communication skills (productive talk), critical thinking strategies (reasoning through world issues), and understanding of cultural diversity.
