This year I decided to implement a Math Workshop Model to provide quality instruction to my fifth graders. This means I meet with three different groups of 9 or 10 students for fifteen minutes at a time for core tier 1 and tier 2 instruction. In order to meet with each group for fifteen minutes, the other students are working around the room at various centers to enhance understanding of concepts taught. By including wobble stools in the classroom, students will be able to meet at the small group table for core instruction without feeling there is no space for them. All students will fit and be engaged in the concepts being taught. While I am working with my small group of students at the table, the other students will be working around the room on a center activity. Many of my students enjoy working on the ground while collaborating with a classmate. Using the comfy floor seat will allow students to be comfortable and focused on the task, rather than always moving and laying on the floor to find the right position to be able to do their best work.
