I know this is not a project you would initially think about when donating, but wait! Just listen! I have a group of students that want to be active and have found their extracurricular support through skateboarding. My students currently skate at parks that are unsafe, and I want to give them every opportunity in my power to keep them skating in a space that they feel safe. The city they live in does not set them up for success to be in community spaces that are supervised. We have a skatepark that is very close to our school that is extremely safe, monitored ( I will also be skating with them, but there is staff on site at all times), and will allow my students to feel carefree without worrying about the people and situations they may encounter at their local park. We are currently fundraising for them to have passes to get into the park, which are very expensive. The only thing I am asking to be funded on here is the mandatory protective gear that they need to be able to skate at the park. Helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads are required (which is great), but many of my students families cannot afford to buy them these items. Currenly, I am using our own fundraising money to pay for admission into the park once a week, as well as the money for pad and helmet rentals. This method is not sustainable unless we get them a set of their own protective gear. Having their own equipment will teach them responsibility, and it will motivate them to follow through with their schoolwork to be a part of this club. I am very excited to be able to motivate these amazing kids through skating.
