These books, Omnivore's Dilemma: Young Reader's Edition by Michael Pollan, will be used instead of the generic information found in the Environmental Science textbook to learn about agriculture and its effects on the environment. By making a direct connection between what my students eat and how that food is raised, grown, and processed, my students will see that they have a direct effect on the environment and a voice to make a change. They will also learn that the way their food is raised, grown, and processed has an effect on their health. This book is written in a more personal way than a textbook and will speak directly to my students' way of life. They have all eaten at a fast food restaurant, but they may not know the pathway that food took to get to the restaurant. They may know that certain foods are not healthy, but they don't understand why. By providing an alternative source of information, my students will go beyond a classroom textbook and into real life, their life.
