Teaching math and enrichment to three gifted 5th grade classes is exciting and challenging. My classes are made up of a wide range of ability levels. My students are eager learners who love to learn and be challenged. I love the fact that there is not a 'one size fits all' with these students, but rather an amazing dynamic of unique individuals that creates a creative and exciting learning environment (this year we have themed our classroom after the Harry Potter series and the students love it). With this does come some challenges. One of the most challenging aspects of teaching in this type of classroom is the ability to reach all students due to the wide range of ability levels (many students struggle with basic grade level math skills while many others need to be challenged with skills up to 2-3 grade levels above 5th).
